Silicone Wristbands for Fundraising
December 16, 2008
There are many types of wristbands that are popular in today’s fashion and one such are the silicone wristbands which was made popular by the famous sportsperson and cyclist Lance Armstrong when he started with his campaign against cancer and the Lance Armstrong Foundation was formed to raise funds for cancer research and to increase awareness of cancer. This particular wristband, as popularized by Lance Armstrong, helped to bring other various silicone wristbands and gel bracelets into being and these stand for political causes as well as for other charity champaigns.
The yellow wristband that he wore is known throughout the world as the Livestrong Wristband and it was back in the month of May, 2004 that the world came to know of it. Silicone wristbands were produced by Nike and their ad agency. A huge number of contenders of the Tour de France of 2004 wore the band and later it was seen that John Kerry along with Matt Damon and many other famous Olympic athletes wore the band to make a point as the world witnessed. When Lance Armstrong featured in the Oprah Winfrey show she along with her audience and the Harpo studio staff wore the band for the same noble cause – in order to make people aware of cancer.
Later on, in the year 2005 silicone wristbands became even more famous with the Make Poverty History campaign where a white silicone bracelet or wristband was worn by almost every famous Hollywood celebrity from Brad Pitt to Cameron Diaz, from Bono to Kylie Minogue and they were all seen wearing the silicone bracelet in the advertisement which was specially made for this campaign. The Live Aid 2005, which was broadcasted on live television all over the world and was viewed by 400 million people helped to popularize this white wristband.
Ever since then the silicone wristband has become a sign of a noble cause and some campaign or the other. It is like a fashion symbol just like the red ribbon which signifies un-AIDS. Blue wristband stands for diabetes, pink one for breast cancer, green for kidney donation, ocean blue mixed with white stands for the Hurricane Katrina, red for AIDS and is only meant for Africa. These silicone wristbands are known as awareness bands or awareness bracelets and the colors of the band denotes the cause of it.
Today silicone wristbands are available in the market places and online sites like eBay and this has made the silicone bracelets a fashion item. These bands were invented to denote a noble cause – a campaign that is meant to make the world and its people aware of the cause. Many people, all around the world, do buy these bands to support the noble causes indeed and while buying the silicone wristbands they keep in mind the concept of supporting the noble campaign for which it stands.
What is Fundraising: Reasons Why Many Organizations Benefit From It
January 17, 2008
If your organization doesn’t have any viable means of gaining additional funds, then fundraising can be the most important tool that your organization needs. On its basic concept, fundraising is one way of raising funds through solicitations and donations from various institutions such as generous foundations, individuals, government bureaus, and different businesses.
In most cases, non-profit organizations are the primary originators of fundraising projects or campaigns. They don’t have enough capital to subsidize their activities or projects, they turn to fundraising as a feasible and workable means of generating money.
However, fundraising has also been associated with the attempt of most private organizations or businesses to associate this term with the recognition of shareholders of the company for “for-profit” ventures.
To know more about the concept of fundraising, here is a list of the things that you need to know:
1. Fundraising is generally adopted and utilized by not-for-profit organizations as one of the best ways to generate funds for their undertakings and different activities. These activities may comprise a vastly far-reaching range of interests such as political campaigns, public broadcasters, and “philanthropic unit like research institutes.
However, fundraising can be acclaimed a different idea if exclusive affairs were coordinated to generate funds. At this point, fundraising activities become “pledge drives,” “telethons” when it involves television coverage, or fund drives.
2. In the United States, fundraising organizations are frequently set up for benevolent functions and reasons. With this, the Internal Revenue Service provides fundraising organizations some particular descriptions, documented as “501(c)(3),” and will be regarded as a “charitable not-for-profit association or business.”
With this, the agency requires the fundraising associations and business to encompass specific “mission statements” that will entail the organization’s primary function and goals as well as its guiding principles in general.
3. Fundraising is not solely limited to solicitations and donations. Fundraising can also pertain to the selling of various goods, in which the profits will be used as the funding capital of a particular campaign or activity.
For instance, your group may do car wash activities in order to raise funds. The proceeds of such activities will be used entirely for the group’s overall activities.
Indeed, fundraising is a lucrative means of generating funds without having to resort to some complicated and unscrupulous means. However, you should remember that the main intention of fundraising should focus on the common good. Any personal gains would be deemed not in conformity to the general principle of fundraising.
